What You Need To Watch This Spring

I know it’s still not here, but the weather we have been having recently, has me thinking of the new season.. Spring may be the time to get out and explore all of the changes happening in our surroundings, but that doesn't mean that my love for staying in and binging a good Netflix series vanishes. If you, like me, will be doing so, here are some of my Netflix recommendations, if you haven't watched them already.

The Witcher
Something that I wasn't really excited about when I saw the trailers or knew that it was coming out. I just didn't think it was going to be a series that I enjoyed. Growing up, I never played the games or read the books, so I didn't really 100% know what to except. That being said, after having watched the first episode with Sam, who had played the games when he was younger, I was hooked! I needed to know all the ins and outs of the characters and what was going to happen. The way the series is set out can be quite confusing at first, but you soon realise that the timeline isn't the same for each story and that there are other stories wound into the main story. It typically follows Geralt of Rivia, played by Henry Cavill, who is a witcher. A person created for the sole purpose of killing monsters. It mainly follows his journey throughout the world where individuals he meets, seem more monstrous than the beasts he is hired to kill.

You Season 2
Sam and I rewatched You season 1 before boxing day, knowing that the second one was due out. Not only was the second series even more creepy and disturbing than the first, I think it was so much better. Joe Goldberg moves out of New York to LA, in the hope of a fresh start, away from the bad happenings that took place in New York. Little does he know, he's back to his usual tricks of stalking and initiating 'bumping' into people. Will it all catch up with him again? You'll have to watch it to find out. Couldn't recommend this one enough - it'll keep you at the edge of your seat and wanting to find out what weird plans Joe is conjuring up this time.

Sex Education Season 2
Sex education was a series that I tried to get into when the first season was released. I put it on, and after the first minute or so, I had to turn it off (if you know, then you know). I wasn't about to sit through a whole season after watching that first scene. I assumed it would all be like that, and it was a straight up no from me. That being said, when the second one was released and I had seen so many positive reviews online, I decided to give it another go. I absolutely loved it. Yes it is cheesey, cringey and some what uncomfortable in places, but that's what makes it so funny. The series follows Otis, whose mum is a sex therapist. Otis takes after his mum, giving out sex advice at school for money. Otis has never had a girlfriend, but is more than happy to solve other's sex issues. This is definitely a good one to put on, when you fancy a feel good series.

The Stranger
Out of all the above, the stranger is the one that I have watched most recently. It gave me Broadchurch vibes. If you're a fan of crime drama's, then you'll definitely enjoy this Netflix original. Again, it's another one the main characters in the story are unaware of little significant happenings to other characters, but all of the stories intertwine into one at the end. A stranger first appears at the local football club, telling Adam Price a secret about his wife. After confronting his wife, she goes missing. The same stranger turns up around town, telling others secrets that belong to their loved ones. Does Adam ever find out what has happened to his wife?

To All The Boys PS: I Still Love You
One that I adored the first time round. If you want a bit of cheese, a bit of cringe, and a little sprinkling of a chick flick/teen drama then this is 100% one for you. It follows Lara Jean, who in the first film, wrote 5 letters to boys she loved at the time, to get her feelings out. Little did she know, someone had sent the letters that she has no true intention of doing, and things get a little strange. 4 of those boys replied. She was left worrying about whether the last letter, had reached its recipient. Now things are going well for her and her true love Peter, does receiving a reply from the 5th boy, turn her head? It's such a good, cosy watch.

What You Need To Watch This Weekend

With the weather being more than unpredictable at the moment - snow one minute, weather warnings put in place with blustering winds and spells of drizzly rain and sleet, a 'what to watch list' seems more than fitting. Surely it's best to stay out of the cold, and remain warm and dry with a good programme to watch? Not just my thinking I'm sure. Netflix is always a great place to start for a good watch, so here are some of my recent recommendations.

The Sinner
Throughout the snowy period at the beginning of February, I binged watched both seasons of The Sinner and absolutely loved it. I'm not and never have been one for horror films, or most thriller moves if I'm honest, however this psychological thriller scared and intrigued me all at the same time. If you're all for murder mysteries or untangling cases that follow alongside a detective then you'll love The Sinner as much as I did. It's gripping, scary, tragic and horrific, a combination I never thought I would enjoy, but definitely did.

Isn’t It Romantic
Who doesn’t love a bit of Rebel Wilson? This is such a good pick me up, feel good film and I would recommend anyone to watch it if they wanted a good giggle. It follows Rebel Wilson’s character who doesn’t like romance but finds herself hitting her head that somehow transports her into a world that’s all roses, rainbows and love hearts.

Abducted In Plain Sight 
As you can probably tell, Netflix has brought out my inner detective side and made me want to watch and immerse myself in all things serial killers and murder mysteries haha. As weird as this one was to comprehend as well as to watch, it was an interesting one nether the less. It follows the story of a beloved neighbour who obsesses over the youngest daughter of the family and eventually abducts her, twice. There are many other twists which makes the whole story a lot more in depth, and bizarre. SO many memes have been made from this one that will definitely make you chuckle (if you know, you know).

After Life
Ricky Gervais plays a grieving husband, who has just lost his wife to cancer. He HATES the world - a way to put his feelings loosely. Doesn't truly understand his purpose in life anymore, and just makes everyone around him miserable. I didn't quite grasp the premise of the series at first, but the more I watched, the more I wanted to know what happened. Plus, Ricky's character has the cutest pup which makes watching even more worthwhile. It's funny and short - one to pick if you don't fancy getting deeply stuck into hours and hours of on screen action.

The Disappearance of Madeline McCann
Again another criminal case programme.. as you can tell, I've spent most of my time watching this type of video haha. But this case is still ongoing 12 years later. I'm more than sure that most people have heard of this case, and this docuseries puts so many different perspectives into the same case. Why was Madeline's case given so much publicity and community effort in comparison to other missing children cases? That being one point made in the series, amongst many others. It's a very interesting watch!

Scooby Doo
A light-hearted recommendation to end the list, and one that surely most people watched as a child. Netflix have added both films to their site, and they're both great to stick on in the background whilst getting on with chores or to sit down, all cosied up and have a good laugh. Who doesn't love Scooby Doo?

What To Watch On Netflix Right Now

Yes, I know technically, it's summer still and that means we should all be out making the most of the somewhat decent weather, going on all the walks, attending all the BBQ's and festivals and living it up. But that doesn't mean that we can't have a cosy evening in, watching the somewhat decent weather through a window, paired with eating all the ice cream as if we were outside on the beach.. Whenever I want a night to myself, Netflix is where I start. I don't know if anyone is like me, but I always find myself endlessly scrolling through the masses of TV programmes and films that Netflix has available, never finding something to watch that takes my fancy. If you're like me in this sense, I hope this will give you some inspiration, and stop the forever scrolling time wasting.

The Kissing Booth
If you're in the mood for something super cringe, almost too much cringe, then this is the one I would pick. It follows two best friends, Elle and Lee, who have a set of rules that as best friends, they have to follow. However, one appears to become broken when Elle starts a 'relationship' with Lee's older brother, Noah. 


Friends
There is never a time that Friends can't/shouldn't be watched. It is by far one of my favourite tv programmes ever, and I don't think I could get bored of watching it over and over. I also love that you don't have to sit down and watch the episodes in order and they will still make sense to the person watching. But obviously, watch them in order if you haven't seen any of them before.

Hot Fuzz
If you want a comedy, then I'd recommend this one. This film was set in the city of Wells, which isn't too far away from where I live. Being nostalgic, as well as brilliant, Hot Fuzz is about a community of individuals whose secrets become exposed due to new police officer, Sargent Angel, whose moved in from London. Although no one wants to believe Sargent Angel's recent developments, he tries his best to make everyone see.

To All The Boys I've Loved Before
This film is just so cute. If you love a chick flick/rom coms, then you'll love this one. Lara Jean writes her feelings down into love letters for 5 guys that she has had a crush on throughout her life, that way she doesn't have to express how she feels. Until one day, the letters got out and she now has a lot of explaining to do. It's definitely one of those feel good films that leaves you feeling warm and whole.

October Favourites

A favourites post... I know, I know. But looking back on my previous posts and I noticed I haven't shared my favourites since the month of February! Other than all things autumn, (which of course you can 100% tell that I have been loving) here are things I have been loving, in case you are wondering...

Chris Brown's new album - Heartbreak on a Full Moon

Well, technically this favourite is cheating a little bit as the full album is released on the 31st of this month, but I just know that I am going to absolutely love it. Chris Brown has been one of my favourite artists for as long as I can remember and his new releases just get better, and better. 

I was lucky enough to see him in Dublin last year, whilst he was doing his 'One Hell of a Nite' tour. It was incredible. Something I was going to make my mission to do at some point, and it was just so much better than I could have ever imagined. I'm sure some of you can relate to seeing an artist live, who you have really wanted to see for the longest time  - it exceeds expectations. This album will for sure be played on repeat as of the 31st (sorry flatmates). 

Riverdale

Riverdale, amongst other TV favourites of mine, has returned to our screens this October. Only being a few episodes in, I'm so intrigued to see how the rest of the series plays out. If you've also been watching it, I'd love to know what you think is going to happen!

Laura Geller Baked Blush in Bora Bora 

This blush has been my new obsession. Within the colder months of the year, I tend to use darker eyeshadows on my eyes, meaning that I don't like to go in too much or heavy with the blusher, but I still want to add a little something onto my cheeks. This blush is exactly that. It gives the cheeks a gorgeous pink flush, without it being like 'whoa she's wearing a lot of blush'. It's super rosy looking without looking too much. I do have some other Laura Geller Baked Blushes, but this one stands out from the rest. 

Colin the Caterpillar Cakes

Another favourite this month has been the mini chocolate caterpillars from Marks and Spencer. Essentially, they are little mini rolls with a caterpillar face, like the big caterpillar birthday cakes that you can get from the majority of supermarkets. This month hasn't been the best and I picked these up in the hope to cheer me up a little. Little did I know, M&S also had Halloween Colin's - count Colin. Doesn't get much better than that.
