Out and About

Saturday 24 February 2018

When it comes to fitness, I am by no stretch of the imagination someone to turn to for advice or information. In fact, you could probably say I was rather clueless when it comes to what our bodies need to maintain a specific 'physique', or the types of exercises that work particular muscles, in and out of the gym. This isn't what this post is about. I have always been a lover of going for an evening run in the Spring/Summer time, it's relaxing almost and such a good way of getting out the house, and letting yourself breathe.

Here are the tips I'd give to you, if like me, you like to get out and about, but aren't crazy about all things fitness.

Find a good spot - Whether you like to run, or walk even, along a main road, in a field, up a hill, by the sea, through a forest, anywhere, make sure it's a place that you feel comfortable with. This may sound silly, but I love to be somewhere where there are things to look at. Having pretty surroundings  distracts me from the thought that I am actually running, and I can run for longer.
Don't force yourself - If you're not feeling up to it, simply don't do it. I am not one to stick to a routine of 'I'm going to go running 4 times a week' for example, I just go when I get the urge too or want some fresh air. Forcing myself to exercise makes me miserable - something I like to avoid haha. I feel accomplished when I go after having wanted to since the day before or whatever, I don't think I would be so positive if I stuck to a strict routine.
Building yourself up to go longer distances takes time - Never expect to be able to run great lengths on your first try. Unless you're super fit then take no notice of this one. But for me, being able to keep a steady pace for long periods of time is something that has grown on each occasion. Build yourself up slowly, and you'll get there in the end.
Invest in a decent pair of shoes - Blister's are not your friend. Finding a comfy pair of supportive running shoes is so important!
Listen to a good playlist - Nothing is better for motivation when it comes to exercising than music, in my eyes. Blasting your favourite songs is a great way to remain focused and full of energy.

Do you like to exercise?

  1. I do exercise regularly but to be honest, running isn't my thing! I have given it a try but it just didn't work for me. I prefer HIIT workouts and yoga, both of which I am able to do at home, and I've managed to make a little routine of working out every other day. I went through a phase of going to the gym as well, but I really didn't enjoy it.

It's great that you're able to enjoy running, I know it can be a lot of fun. Exercise is such a personal thing, and I think you have to really find what works for you and make it your own. :)

    1. I guess it's all about what works for you - if that happens to be intense workouts like you say, then so be it! Good for you. I definitely agree with you :-)

  2. Investing in shoes is so important (I checked it on my own feet)
Also I have a special playlist of music that I normally don't listen to but it keeps me motivated

    1. Learning the hard way is never fun haha! Keep those blister plasters stocked up - I always do. Music is the best thing to keep motivated I think! It also helps you to keep a steady pace and rhythm!

  3. I actually cannot run, my body doesn't allow it at all, I get so out of breath, however I absolutely love going on walks. As I'm in the city sadly I don't do it as much, but totally agree that having an end goal and place, where the view is amazing definitely helps! xx

  6. Great post! I have to take my dog for a walk everyday, but ever since I've put a playlist together, I don't mind going as much. It's great to have that time walking in the fresh air, with a good playlist xx
