A Christmassy Edinburgh

Saturday, 15 December 2018

I am currently sat next to the Christmas tree, mince pie by my side and a cup of tea in hand, all of which I thought would be perfect to accompany me whilst I write about the most Christmassy trip I have had. Edinburgh Christmas markets. If you know me personally, then you'll know that whenever December comes round, I want to immerse myself in all things Christmassy, whether that be outings, surroundings or decorations. Christmas markets are one of the best ways (in my opinion) to get into the Christmas spirit. But never have I seen something quite the scale of the ones in Edinburgh - they're huge! Any kind, and every kind of nibbles, meals, treats, drinks, gifts, jewellery etc, would be found amongst those ever so festive wooden huts.

Scotland was rather chilly, not going to lie. Not that I wasn't expecting it to be, but I was surprised to find how bitter the wind was. Although, if that isn't the perfect excuse to have a hot chocolate (filled with Baileys too) then I don't know what is. The Christmas markets themselves are placed right in the centre of the city, in Princes Street Gardens, right by Waverly station. As well as the little wooden huts selling goods, there are also (what I would call) fairground rides, a train ride, a Christmas tree maze and a helter skelter. The Christmas tree maze was so sweet, and the smell of all the pine trees were just incredible. It was definitely a smell that I wish I could bottle up and keep in my nose - I know that sounds rather weird, but honestly, the smell of pine was wonderful haha. There were stamps hidden inside the maze, which were letters and spelt out a festive themed word. If you were able to make sense of the festive word, the elves at the exit to the maze would give you a treat. (We may be 22, but we were most definitely going to find out what the word was).

If you're a lover of Christmas and want to venture to somewhere new, try Edinburgh. It's the most gorgeous city, you won't be disappointed.

What do you love most about Christmas?
